The semi tropical climate enjoyed by Salobrena and the Costa Tropical leads us to a mainly outdoor lifestyle. Whether just barbecues in the garden or more energetic activities, the weather is eminently suitable.

The warm seas along the entire Costa Tropical bring water sport enthusiasts from all parts to enjoy their particular activity. Some of the more exciting include Kite Boarding at Motril beach, wind surfing and on some occasions even surfboarding.

Kite Boarding has in recent years become very popular and this is a first class spectator sport for those of us that may be a little past our sell by date!!

Horse riding is growing in popularity as more North Europeans become in the adventure of a trek into the hills behind Almunecar and Salobrena or even further inland to the Alpujarra. There are numerous riding schools for all level of rider dotted along the coast, some Spanish owned and operated and some by British, German and Dutch nationals.

Golf is a growing interest on the coast with the relaunched Motril Golf Course (Los Moriscos). Motril golf now has 18 holes with the prospect of a further 9 holes to be added.

Salobrena has an 18 hole golf course on the drawing board also.

Sailing
The weather on the Costa Tropical is ideal for small boat sailing and boats can be hired in Motril port and also at Marina del Esté. smaller craft such as pedalos and wind surfers can be hired at most beaches.
Motril sailing club holds regular regattas with other sailing clubs from all parts of Spain attending.

Para Gliding
Because of the mountains behind the Costa Tropical there are virtually constant thermal currents throughout the summer spring and autumn months encouraging enthusiasts from all over Northern Europe to pursue their sport mainly in Almunecar but right along the coast. Castel de Ferro has unique attractions for this sport ( see weather patterns)

Walking & Bird Watching
The coastal footpaths stretch for miles along the Costa Tropical and there are some well written guide books available. One in particular prepared by Salobreña Town Hall is "Sendas del Costa Tropical" this is available from the tourist information office. The winter months are perhaps best suited to walking due to the day time temperatures
The area is a bird watcher's paradise - in Salobreña you will see dozens of varieties from Brown Eagles to Honey Buzzards. The vega just outside of the village of Salobrena is a nature preserve encouraging many migrating species to spend time here.

Ski-ing at Sierra Nevada
Just 75 minutes easy inland drive from Salobreña lies the Ski Resort od Sierra Nevada. Ski-ing is normally possible from the first snows of November right through to the latter part of May. Early and late snows are boosted by snow cannon.
The ski village is fun even for non skiers and really is a "must visit" when in the area. For great information and up to date snow reports visit SierraNevada.com - this website carries a series of webcams so you will be able to see the snow as it falls.
